La Cañada Gladiators 19, Temple City Rams 0
The Gladiator Gremlins traveled to face a much improved Temple City Rams squad early Sunday morning at Temple City High School.
The Gladiators had a steady moving offense behind quarterbacks Noah Kim and Tanner Gish. Making everything happen up front were linemen Drake Barron, Julian Martinez, Jules Buenabenta, Justin Sabourin, Chris Simonian, William Stewart, Derek Albanese, Ashton Baron, Miles Haxton, Michael Chan, Connor McGoldrick, Ian Goodstein, Brandt Lukas, Kyle Ramirez and Henry Alvarez. Temple City’s defense rarely found a way to stop the line, which allowed running backs Elijah Washington, Will McConnell, Chris Wood and Mitchell Espinosa to run at will. The first offensive drive ate up most of the first quarter and ended with a 30-yard touchdown run by McConnell. Washington had another outstanding game on both sides of the ball with a long touchdown scurry on offense and another 60-yard run for a touchdown following his own defensive strip in the Rams’ backfield.
On defense, Jackson Totleben, Richard Berry, McGoldrick and Chan showed excellent speed on the ends and helped to prevent the Rams from effectively running the ball outside. Linbackers McConnell, Washington, Branden Julien and Espinosa blitzed often and made a number of outstanding tackles. The defensive backfield was led by Bobby Gazmarian, Chris Wood, Carson Okland, Will Warren, Jared Bourgault, Clayton Esparza, David Saravia and Jake George. Esparza had his best game to date with some hard tackles from the corner. The entire defense played consistent football en route to their second shutout.
The Gremlins improved to 5-1 with the final league contest against Rosemead at home this Saturday determining their playoff chances. Rosemead will come into the game against La Cañada undefeated with a 6-0 record. No team has scored against the tough Rebel squad. The Gladiators will be ready for this colossal showdown on Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. at La Cañada High School.

Midgets
La Cañada Gladiators 8, East L.A. Bobcats 34
The La Cañada Midget team played their hearts out this Sunday afternoon at Covina High School, only to come up short in a 26-12 defeat to the Covina Vikings.
On a warm afternoon, it looked like the Gladiators were going to gain a victory as they were in total control during the first half of the game. Behind some outstanding blocking from Adam Fazzi, Jared Soohoo, Derrick Lee, Thomas Rhee, Lucas Drill and Michael Kobeissi, the Gladiators were able to march down the field and put up the first points of the game on a quarterback sneak by Ty Gangi. Their second touchdown came on a 5-yard pass in the flat to fullback Zachery Washington, who rumbled and stumbled down the sideline for a 50-yard score.
Defensively, the Gladiators held the Vikings in check for the first half of the game, but couldn’t contain their speed in the second half. Cornerback Steven Schmutzer and safety Jorge Escandon each recorded an interception.
Overall, the Gladiators played with a lot of emotion and will continue to play their hearts out no matter what the outcome of the game is.
The Gladiators play host to a strong Glendora team on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. at La Cañada High School.
