What happened 10-20-30 years ago?

Returning for its second year, the Men About Town Fashion Show was a hit with locals, as civic and business leaders took to the catwalk at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club to raise funds for the local chamber of commerce.
Twenty Years Ago
Tommy Kendall, a 1984 graduate of La Cañada High and local resident, won his seventh automobile racing championship after placing fourth in a race at Phoenix International Speedway and earning enough points to capture the 1993 IMSA GTS title. He also took home $100,000 for the day's efforts.
Thirty Years Ago
La Cañada High senior Jon Fox, drum major for the school's marching band, posed in his new uniform for the cover of the Valley Sun. The uniform was paid for by the La Cañada High School Music Parents, who also helped that year to pay for new banners, tall flags and sabers to be used in the band's field shows and parades.
Forty Years Ago
The La Cañada school board began looking to the installation of air conditioning systems for its campuses that did not yet have them: Oak Grove, Palm Crest and Paradise Canyon elementary schools, and Foothill Intermediate School. Such systems had been installed in the district's newer campuses, La Canada Elementary and La Cañada High, both built in the 1960s.
Fifty Years Ago
A Kid's Day program sponsored by the La Cañada Kiwanis Club at Lanterman Auditorium featured a showing of the Walt Disney film, “Johnny Tremain.” Admission was one article of used, clean clothing which would be sent to the Tijuana Kiwanis Club for distribution in Mexico.
Sixty Years Ago
Members of the Girls Athletic Association at La Cañada Junior High made fudge and popcorn treats to sell to their classmates. Funds raised were earmarked to help present an all-school carnival.
