La Cañada school officials said Thursday afternoon that their doors may remain closed Friday as Southern California Edison crews works to restore power in the city following a fierce windstorm.

“We won’t know until tomorrow morning if the schools will be open,” La Cañada Unified school board President Susan Boyd said.

Principals will be notified about the status of the schools at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Boyd said, and they will in turn contact families via the district’s automated call system. They expect to be able to notified families by about 6:45 a.m., Boyd said.

Kim Kinder, dir. of finance at Flintridge Prep, said that Friday classes at the private 7-12 school also remain a question mark.

“We are in a holding pattern,” Kinder said.

Calls to Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and St. Francis High School went unanswered.

La Cañada, Pasadena, South Pasadena and San Marino schools were shuttered Thursday after Santa Ana winds battered the San Gabriel Valley, splintering trees and downing power lines.

Pasadena and South Pasadena district officials have confirmed their schools will remain closed Friday.
