Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy filed a draft Environmental Impact Report Monday with the La Cañada Flintridge Planning Department regarding a series of campus improvements and expansions, including a 99,000-square-foot parking structure.

The submission of plans begins a 45-day comment period in which members of the public will be allowed to voice concerns or questions about the impact of the project and its construction on the surrounding community.

Anyone wishing to file a comment with the city's Planning Department has until Aug. 27 to do so.

"Today's release of the draft EIR by the city marks a major milestone for our modernization project. Our Master Plan is all about the girls we serve now and will continue to serve in the future," said FSHA President Sister Carolyn McCormack stated Monday in a release.

The campus expansion would allow the girls-only school to increase its enrollment cap from 385 to 425 students and would provide for the creation of a new arts and humanities building.

Additionally, the plan would call for the annexation of 24 acres currently under the jurisdiction of Pasadena into the borders of La Cañada, according to the report's executive summary.

Fred Buss, a senior planner with the city, said a consultant would respond to issues raised during the public comment period in the project's final environmental findings report.

The issue will be discussed in public hearings before the Planning Commission, likely sometime in late September, and later the City Council, Buss said.

The plan is available for viewing at: the La Cañada Flintridge Branch Library, 4545 Oakwood Ave.; the planning department counter of City Hall, 1327 Foothill Blvd.; or online at lcf.ca.gov/planning.
