The new store, located at 635 Foothill Blvd. in the Plaza de La Cañada, is the 18th for the Los Angeles-area supermarket chain, which operated a site in Pasadena’s Paseo Colorado mall for 13 years before closing last June.
The opening will allow Gelson’s to retain its Foothills customer base while allowing the business to expand into neighboring cities like Glendale, marketing director Yvonne Manganaro said in an earlier interview.
The first 200 visitors to turn out for the grand opening event will receive special prizes, including a commemorative keepsake box of Gelson’s chocolates, vouchers for free goods and a bag filled with items valued at $60, according to Manganaro.
Pat Anderson, president and chief executive of the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the business to the community and said she looked forward to attending the grand opening.
“It’s going to be a wonderful addition to the city,” Anderson said. “I think it will bring additional business into that center and make the other businesses there very happy.”
