Anne Louise Wallace |
Anne Louise Wallace, the second
daughter of Ella and William Wallace, was
born on August 19, 1922 in Cleveland,
Ohio. She died on February 28, 2011
in her home in La Canada at 88 years
of age.
Anne grew up in Cleveland during the
Great Depression. She was the fi rst
person in her family to go to college,
graduating from Ohio State University with bachelor and
master degrees in home economics. There she met her
future husband, Alex who was working toward a doctorate
in chemical engineering. They married in 1942. Anne taught
high school until they moved to Wisconsin to run a plant
that produced lactose for growing penicillin mold. After
their three daughters were born, synthetic penicillin became
available, and the family moved to Los Angeles.
In 1959, they settled in La Canada when Alex took a position
at JPL. As she raised her daughters, Anne was active in
