Using a cash prize won in the school's paper drive, the students of teacher Elin Ehrenclou's fifth-grade class at Oak Grove School, located where the Child Educational Center and Crestview Prep operate today, donated a liquidambar tree to be planted along the fence that divided the elementary school's property from La Cañada High School

Thirty-five American flags were placed along Foothill Boulevard to honor Memorial Day. The project was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada. Local scouting troops and other local youth organizations participated in the flags' installation.

A Pomeranian named “Bootsie” was the sweepstakes winner in the second annual Hillside Dog Show held in a Chula Senda Lane backyard and organized by sixth-grader Joan Summerfield. The event raised $8.64 from the children who showed their pets. The beneficiary of those receipts was the La Cañada Youth House.
